Introduction
The initial charge of the MSF OCB Anti-Racism Listening and Inquiry Initiative for Change was to identify and present recommendations regarding reported and unreported experiences of racism within OCB. As the interviews progressed, we identified other interrelated and important dimensions of the problem of exclusion based on gender, class (education, language, access to visas, exposure to other countries and cultures), nation, (dis)ability(ies), and age, as they were reported and described by participants.

We began working in late-October and will continue until the final report is submitted in June.
We present this draft as a “sneak preview” of the final report to come, which will happen after completing any remaining interviews, reviewing artifacts, and editing.

This is a report of general findings regarding racism and other exclusionary and harmful practices based on other social categories like gender, age, and disabilities. Because the information is a compilation of findings, our hope is that each reader will find their perspective represented, even if their specific experience is not.

NOTE: The presentation of the findings is hampered by imprecise names, definitions, and understandings of race. (To be discussed more in length in the final report). For current purposes , we employ people of color, white people, people in/from Global North (Western Europe, US, Canada) and Global South (Africa, Middle East, East and South Asia, Latin America, Caribbean). “ExPats” are generally white and “National” and “Detachment” staff tend to be people of color. When possible, we are more specific.
